Academic Substitution Agency
Professional and self-reliant substitute teachers for filling gaps in academic Curricula
Info
ASA contracts a team of capable teachers that allow you to fill gaps within your program that have unexpectedly come up. ASA provides fully equipped teachers who can quickly integrate within the department's digital systems and work to further your departement's intended teaching goals.Whether (due to sick-leave) you are looking for a replacement for a handful of lectures, or (due to a successful grant application) for someone to pick up a whole single course, we will actively look for a fitting, autonomous, teacher, who can fill in while you look for a more permanent solution.Currently, we have staff on hand to deal with courses within faculties of philosophy and generalist courses within the (digital) humanities.Interested or curious about our teachers and price points?
Call or e-mail us to discuss the possibilities!

Founder of ASA: Hugo Hogenbirk
Hugo is currently finishing his PhD in philosophy at the university of Groningen.Over the years spent in academia, he saw the struggles smaller departments and faculties had when personnel would unexpectedly drop out. This prompted him to found ASA, in order to add to the toolkit available to provide quality education.Hugo has taught courses in theoretical philosophy and designed and taught courses in the history of philosophy. Additionally, he is trained as a digital humanist, where he insists on the importance of the transparency of algorithms.
At ASA we value educational collaboration. Learning does not just happen in the seclusion of our own particular courses, but is made effective through a broader educational context. Our teachers thus do not only aim to leave their own mark through the courses they teach, but instead try to embed their activities within your program's intended learning outcomes. Collaboration opens the way to continuity which in turn allows you to provide a cohesive program to your students.
Recent Reviews
I wholeheartedly recommend Hugo Hogenbirk for teaching roles. At University College Groningen, he replaced one of the professors at short notice in teaching a challenging course. I experienced him as highly competent, autonomous, cooperative, and pragmatic.
